(Groundskeeper)
Tops’l Farm is a farm retreat & campground in mid-coast Maine. We believe in the importance of stepping outside the hectic pace of day-to-day life and spending time in the woods with close friends and family.
Job Description
The Property Steward works closely with the Director of Property and Lodging to maintain grounds and facilities at Tops’l Farm. The individual supporting the farm in this position will have a myriad of skills relating to the natural and built spaces at Tops’l Farm. The Steward must be able to work on many moving parts of our 80+ acre property with three houses, an event barn complex, campground and bathhouse.
This role will require occasional demanding and physically hard work. We have big dreams for the continued evolution of our farm as a (gorgeous) space of escape and play as well as a functioning working farm.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Property
Mow and maintain all lawns at Tops’l
String trim around buildings and landscape features
Blow pathways clear of debris and rake gravel edges of pathways after heavy usage
Repair and renew grounds after heavy usage from events
Brush hog fields and roadside brush as needed
Maintain and repair lawn equipment, tractor and implements
Perform gardening and landscaping duties as needed
Perform snow removal from driveways and critical pathways
Monitor and maintain farm infrastructure such as electric fences, sheep shed etc.
Help with weekly animal care duties
Keep an eye for guest experience within the landscape and support event team’s décor and infrastructure
Buildings
Remove trash and recycling from buildings and ensure proper disposal, in conjunction with Property Director
Monitor utility levels such as propane and septic
Perform spring opening and fall closing tasks on all buildings according to checklists monitored in conjunction with Director of Property and Sleep Operations
Work with event team to set up, break down and store event furniture
Fulfill a specified amount of weekend on-call days to troubleshoot building issues as they occur during guest stays.
Special projects
In addition to the weekly, seasonal, and as-needed duties listed above, the Property Steward will work closely with the Director of Property and Lodging on special projects in and around the property.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Required:
A love of nature & making spaces beautiful.
A minimum of 4 years’ experience in a landscaping or groundskeeping role.
Must be able to operate maintenance equipment including lawnmowers, tractors, and other farm equipments
Strong knowledge of pest management and basic lawn maintenance.
High attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
Good stamina and physical health.
Friendliness, approachability, and enthusiasm for working with other people.
Above all else, kind.
Work Specific Requirements:
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Interest in long-term commitment and growth.
Strong references
A valid driver’s license
Hours
Schedule:
Part time with set weekly schedule beginning April 2023 (30 hours). This position could become full-time for the right person.
